If you own a car, there is no way you can escape high gas prices. However, you can control what you spend in gas, and how often you fill up, if you are a conscientious driver and car owner. When you follow these tips, you will be able to stay away from the gas station and stay on the road.
• Make sure you keep up with oil changes and tire rotations. When you keep up with your everyday maintenance, your car will run better and be more efficient. Make sure you use a proper grade of motor oil in order to see the best fuel economy in your vehicle.
• Check your tire pressure. If your tires are not filled up enough, it requires more energy on behalf of your car to get them to go. Therefore, check your tire pressure and fill them up if they are low. Air is a lot cheaper than gas.
• Get that junk out of your trunk. If you are carrying around a lot of cargo, it will make your vehicle weigh more and you will use more fuel. Get rid of the unnecessary stuff that is taking up space in your trunk or backseat, it’s costing you money.
• Slow down. Believe it or not your road rage or lead foot is costing you money. Not only are you more likely to get a ticket, but you are also more likely to burn through gasoline. Slow down and save money!
• Turn off cruise control. Sure, cruise control can help you maintain your speed and keep you from going faster than necessary, but that is only if you are on a flat surface and do not have to constantly brake. Therefore, if you are driving in hills or mountains, or if you find yourself constantly braking, turn off the cruise control, you don’t need it and it’s using up gas.
